Assessment of Presidents
Two Guides on assessing Presidents (CEOs, Executive Directors) of higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations are available online for use without charge for Governing Boards to assist them in assessing presidents.
- “Sitting Beside:” Developmental Assessment of Presidents of Academic Institutions, A Guide
- “Sitting Beside:” Developmental Assessment of Chief Executives of Nonprofit Organizations, A Guide
“Sitting beside rather than standing over” is the guiding principle used to assess a President or Chief Executive. Each Guide describes three nine major activities in conducting an assessment. Enhancing the usefulness of presidential assessment to both the President or Chief Executive and the governing board is the goal. Each guide includes a “cafeteria menu” of approximately 150 criteria that can be selected to assess a President or Chief Executive.
